Christine Sperow is an award-winning journalist and anchors WBTV News This Morning from 4:30-7 a.m. as well as WBTV News at Noon. The news experience, warm personalities and chemistry of the morning team have helped make WBTV News This Morning the top morning newscast in the Charlotte market, and a two-time Emmy winner for Best Morning Newscast.
In February 2019, Christine celebrated 10 years with WBTV News, coming from sister-station KLTV in Tyler, Texas. Christine has anchored coverage of many breaking news events in Charlotte, from devastating hurricanes and ice/snow storms, to news events that made national headlines like the funeral of Reverend Billy Graham and the Charleston Church shooting where nine parishioners were senselessly murdered at a weekly bible study. Christine’s reporting has also earned her a Midsouth Regional Emmy Award and Salute to Excellence Awards from the National Association of Black Journalists. Her anchoring, reporting and covering breaking news also earned her recognition from the Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards, Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC) and Texas Associated Press Broadcasters.
At WBTV, Christine leads the campaign to help raise money for children fighting pediatric cancer at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway one lucky person gets a chance to win a custom-built home in the Charlotte area through a raffle, and the home is given away live on WBTV at the end of the campaign. Since Christine’s partnership with St. Jude, millions of dollars have been raised and in recent years tickets to win the Dream Home sold out in a matter of days! Christine loves volunteering in the Charlotte community and speaking to young people. For her work with St. Jude and in the community at large, Christine was named in the 2018 class of the 50 Most Influential Women by The Mecklenburg Times.
Christine is married and has two children. She and her family attend Calvary Church in Charlotte. Christine is also a member of the Junior League of Charlotte, the Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists (CAABJ), the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Christine is a native of Miami, Florida, and is the youngest of six children. Most of her immediate family now resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Christine had a decorated high school volleyball career, receiving a full athletic scholarship to the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Journalism from the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, with a minor in Theater. Christine loves watching sports, especially football and basketball!
